Once upon a time, an ancient story tells us, the master had a visitor who came to inquire about Zen. But instead of listening, the visitor kept talking about his own concerns and giving his own thoughts. After a while, the master served tea. He poured tea into his visitor’s cup until it was full and then he kept on pouring.
 
Finally, the visitor could not bear it any longer, “Don’t you see that my cup is full?” he said. “It’s not possible to get anymore in.”

  • Joan Chittister was the Keynote Speaker at the National Older Adults Conference, on September 3, 2019. This conference, held in Ashville, NC, was a Spirit-filled gathering of adults 50 and older who love learning and discerning together, exploring God’s call for their lives, and living out that call by sharing their energy, insight, and legacy with their families, communities, and the world.

  • Former Irish President Mary McAleese has been awarded the 2019 Alfons Auer Ethics Prize by the Catholic Faculty of Theology of Tübingen University, in recognition of her doctoral work on children’s rights in the Catholic Church’s 1983 code of canon law. In honor of this award, Joan Chittister and Dr. McAleese will have a public conversation at Trinity College, Dublin, on November 2.
