Joan Chittister was commencement speaker and recipient of honorary doctorate

Carlow University, a liberal arts college in Pittsburgh, PA, founded by the Sisters of Mercy, presented Joan Chittister with an honorary degree during its virtual 2021 graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 8. Sister Joan also gave a brief commencement address during the ceremony. “Sister Joan has provided our graduates with the message they need to hear in these turbulent time,” said Suzanne K. Mellon, president of Carlow University. “We are grateful for her clarion voice that provides the pathway we need to follow to build a more just and merciful world.” The commencement is posted on the university’s website.
