Writer in Residence

The second Joan Chittister Writer-in-Residence for 2022 has concluded her month-long residency in Erie. Ailie Margot, a doctoral student at Villanova University, used this time to work on her dissertation proposal, which explores the letters of a loosely affiliated medieval religious group known as “The Friends of God.” “To be able to work all day uninterrupted, to have the opportunity to talk about my research with everyone here over meals, and participate in the liturgy of the hours like my medieval conversation partners would have done is a privilege,” Ailie says.  



The Joan Chittister Writer-in-Residence program offers a small stipend, as well as room and board at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, to women writers working on subjects related to Sister Joan’s areas of interest.
