Archbishop John Wester, of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, recently released a pastoral letter calling for nuclear disarmament. This courageous letter became the subject of Joan Chittister’s latest National Catholic Reporter column, which joined him in advocating for peace. He responded with this letter to her:

Dear Sister Joan,

Although we have never met, I do want to thank you very much for your provocative and insightful article in the National Catholic Reporter regarding nuclear disarmament and the need for the Church to proclaim the peace of Jesus. You brought in some excellent points and gave us a challenging perspective. Your well-reasoned reflection is a welcome voice in the conversation that our Church and country need to promote. Your attention to my recent pastoral letter gave it a heightened awareness and for that I am truly grateful.

I enjoy your writing and have benefitted especially from your scriptural reflections. Thanks for all you do to promote the Gospel in our Church here in the U.S.
